Regulatory Focus, Ambidextrous Learning, and Opportunity Recognition in New Product Development

This study focuses on individual managers’ ambidextrous learning and examines its psychological antecedents consequences in the new product development (NPD) context. Specifically, drawing paradox theory regulatory focus theory, this relationship between (i.e., promotion prevention focus), learning, NPD opportunity recognition, from ambidexterity perspective. Based survey data of 225 managers high-tech small medium-sized enterprises China, we find that focus, acting as an enabler a deterrent respectively, affect their which turn facilitates recognition process. Further analyses reveal mediates effects NPD. Our findings offer insights research regarding unique role manifested actionable managerial capability. The novel process, practical implications for to self-regulate behavior benefit recognition.
